Pope Francis sacks conservative Cardinal Mueller who handled cases of paedophile priests in Vatican office
Pope Francis has removed German cardinal Gerhard Mueller, who was the head of the Vatican office handling cases related to sex abuse of priests accused of raping or molesting minors.

Cardinal Mueller is an exception now, since most of earlier incumbents had kept the post till their retirement. He was holding office for the last five years and would have stayed on for another six years had everything gone right.

A few days ago, Australian cardinal George Pell, working at Vatican office, was relieved to return home to face charges of sexual assault in his home country. Thousands of pending cases of paedophile priests had been attracting criticism from the victims and abuse survivors.

Gerhard Ludwig Muller, 71, a German cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church, thus served as the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) from his appointment by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012 until 2017.

However, because of inapt handling of sex abuse case, it was On 1 July 2017 that Pope Francis named Luis Ladaria Ferrer to succeed Mulller as Prefect of the CDF.

Moreover, earlier, the Survivors Network for those Abused by Priests had criticized Cardinal Muller's appointment to the CDF because he had reinstated Peter Kramer in parish ministry after Kramer was convicted of sexually abusing children.

Further, Kramer had also undergone court-ordered therapy, but Muller did not inform those facts in Kramer's new parish of his past history for which had apologized, informs Wikipedia post on him. Also, currently, Muller is being civilly sued in France for his supervision during a case of cover-up of abuse that primarily involved the Archbishop of Lyon, France, Cardinal Philippe Barbarin.
