Power Yoga: New way of life
Power yoga is a vigorous, rigorous and fast paced form of Ashtanga Yoga. While Ashtanga Yoga focuses on gentle body movements and a series of specific postures, it combines yogic asanas like Surya Namaskar with strength and flexibility training.
THE NEW fitness buzz word- Power Yoga- may leave those familiar with only the traditional form of yoga, confused. Power yoga, simply put, is nothing but a more vigorous, rigorous and fast paced form of Ashtanga Yoga. While Ashtanga Yoga focuses on gentle body movements and a series of specific postures, Power Yoga combines yogic asanas like Surya Namaskar with strength and flexibility training. Thus, it makes yoga more lively, energetic and appealing to the youth of today.

Benefits of Power Yoga

Power yoga is not just another fad that will lose its charm quickly. And the reason it is becoming so popular is that it has several health- both mental and physical- benefits.
The first step of power yoga concentrates on the synchronisation of mind and body and flushing out of toxins from the body. The next step focuses on improving the stamina and the flexibility of the muscles and cleansing the nervous channels.

This means that with regular practice one can increase his/her ability and capability to focus and concentrate. It can also help a person correct and maintain a good and proper posture.
Like the traditional form of yoga one can alleviate stress and tension and the aches and pains caused by stress and tension. Thus, it helps in overall relaxation of body and mind.

Athletes and sports persons can use it as a warm up or training activity. It is especially helpful in improving performance for sports like golf, swimming, football and cycling.

It scores over the traditional yoga, in that it does not demand a complete overhaul of one’s lifestyle. One can incorporate it in his/her current lifestyle with ease and can even alternate it with any other physical activities like cardio and weight training.

Is Power Yoga for everyone?

Being vigorous in nature this style of yoga demands a good level of fitness to begin with. There are three modules- Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced- that one can choose from depending on their health status.

It is an exercise routine that is suitable for people who desire a quick, sweat-breaking workout. Traditional yoga is still the more attractive option for those with time to spare and a love for gentle, slower paced exercises.
