Powerful earthquake hits Turkey, many dead
Earthquake of magnitude 6 hit Turkey in the early hours of Monday morning. 57 people are feared dead so far. It was followed by more than 30 aftershocks of magnitudes up to 5.5. Hundreds of people are injured. Rescue operations are under progress.
AN EARTH quake of magnitude 6 hit eastern Turkey in the wee hours of Monday and till now 57 people are reported killed. Most of the houses in six villages have been raised to ground.The earthquake came during the night and its epicenter was near the village of Basyurt. It was followed by more than 30 aftershocks of magnitudes up to 5.5. Hundreds of people are feared injured. The number of the dead and wounded is likely to rise as the rescue operations progress.
