Pranab Mukherjee leaves for USA to discuss financial reforms
Pranab Mukherjee will address the India-US economic and financial partnership summit in Washington today, which is being organised by the CII. FM will also have discussions with the US Secretary of Treasury on various topics.
UNION FINANCE Minister Pranab Mukherjee is leaving for a three-day visit to the US today to deliver keynote address at the Conference, being organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with a US based institute on “US Indian Economic and Financial Partnership”. The secretary of US Department of Treasury, Timothy Geithner, will also address the conference.
Pranab Mukherjee will also hold a bilateral meeting with Timothy Geithner, where both the leaders are likely to discuss issues of mutual interest, the general world economic situation, financial regulatory reforms both in India and US, and financial markets among others.
During his visit, the Indian Finance Minister will participate in the cabinet level meeting of the India-US Financial and Economic Partnership with the secretary of US Department of Treasury. During the meeting, both the sides are likely to discuss macroeconomic issues, Global Rebalancing and G-20: Role of US and India, general global economic outlook. Both the leaders, Pranab Mukherjee and Timothy Geithner would address a Joint Press Conference after the meeting.
During his visit of USA, the Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will also meet with the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of Indian and American Companies on a Luncheon meeting on Tuesday and later will have a bilateral meeting with US National Security Adviser (NSA). In the evening, Indian Ambassador to US, Meera Shankar will host dinner at India House in Washington in the honour of Finance Minister.
Finance Minister is leading a high level delegation including RBI Governor D. Subbarao, SEBI chairman UK Sinhala, Economic Affairs Secretary R Copeland, Chief Economic Advisor Kashia Base and several businessmen.
