Pran's riveting performances entertained several generations of Indians: Manmohan Singh
It seems that the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, too, is an admirer of actor Pran Krishan Sikand. On the demise of the thespian actor Pran, 93, on July 12, Singh while condoling the actor's death, paid rich tributes to Pran by saying that Pran 'entertained several generations of Indians with his riveting performances in hundreds of celluloid roles'.

According a PIB release, the Prime Minister said that Pran's versatility in etching a lasting impression on cinema audience`s mind improved with time for which he was bestowed with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award. "He worked with doyens of film industry among which he was an icon," Singh said.

On this sad occasion, I convey my heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family and Pran`s countless fans and admirers. I pray for peace of the departed soul," added Singh.

The funeral of actor Pran is being held today afternoon at Shivaji Park in Dadar after passed away on the night of July 12 at Lilavati hospital in Mumbai after a spell of illness.

It may be recalled that Pran acted in over 400 films since 1940. As a versatile actor, he played both positive and negative roles with equal elan. So effective was his acting in negative roles that people stopped naming their children 'Pran' as claimed by the film industry.

Pran won umpteen awards like the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award in 1967, 1969 and 1972 and Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. He was awarded as the 'Villain of the Millennium' by Stardust in 2000. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2013.
