Pratyusha Banerjee's suicide mystery: A psychological analysis
Pratyusha Banerjee, 24, an acclaimed TV actress famous for her portrayal as Anandi in the TV show " Balika Vadhu", allegedly committed suicide in her prime, which has shocked people in media as well the people at large.

It is being widely speculated that there could be some 'personal reasons' leading to psychological dilemma with a mental state that leads to rationale that life was no more worth living. Of course, the investigations and law will take their own course, but it has set in debate on why famous people who come up through struggle resort to taking their own lives.

It is often said that by psychologists that people attempt suicide since they cannot bear the psychological pain caused due to a developed situation and doubt that things will ever get better and intentionally snub out their own lives. Such people see suicide as a solution to end unbearable physical or psychological dilemma.

Often famous people commit suicide as a result of sudden emotional shock, depression or total loss of self-worth. The feeling that gets developed is not so much related to 'a desire to die' but as 'a will to stop living' as a solution, said Jaipur-based psychologist Dr. Anita Srivastava.

Even those who survive the first attempt on suicide, needs a strong social support to come out the suicidal tendencies. However, we leave things to fate despite the fact for the survivor and his or her family the attempt itself has very strong emotional repercussions leading to mood disorders.

She is of the view that life skills education, cognitive therapy and counseling can be of immense help since such interventions help you to recognize signs of depression and suicidal thoughts from a psychological standpoint and look for alternative courses to living a meaningful life.

According to a professional and practicing psychologist, Thomas Joine, the rationale behind suicide can be as simple or as complex as life itself.  Joine further says that the instinct of self-preservation powerful enough that few can overcome it by force of will. Many others also think that instinct of self-preservation is very strong especially those who have come up through struggle.

He adds that the acquired capability for suicide is a continuous construct that gets accumulated over time with repeated exposure to more painful and provocative experiences. Explaining suicide on the basis of the interpersonal-psychological theory, he says that one who commits suicide has both the ' to die by suicide' and the 'ability to do so'.

Many close friends of Pratyusha are contending that she was happy-go-lucky person who had struggled her way up in the entertainment industry and was incapable of dying by suicide. There could be other reasons of her death which require thorough investigation, they feel.
