Pre-Diwali bash: Jaipur markets decked up for Dhanteras
The markets in Jaipur have been decorated with festival lights and buntings for the festival of Dhanteras to be celebrated today (Nov 11). Major shops and malls are decked up with latest wares to meet the demands of the customers.
IN THE city markets, Dhanteras is a big day since the enthusiasm and fervour touches a new height for Diwali shopping on this day. Jewellery and utensil shops, both in the malls and in the Walled City, are expecting a huge turnout of shoppers on the day.
Dhanwantri is considered to be the doctor of all gods with the total knowledge of Ayurvedic medicine. He was born on Dhan Trayodashi. It is common practice in Hinduism to pray to Dhanvantari on this day for seeking his blessings for a sound health.
Prior to starting the puja, 13 lamps are lit. While after the puja, a big clay lamp is lit and placed at the entrance of the house facing south. Some coins are also put into the lamp that is big enough to last the whole night.
