The Preeti Jain rape case seems to have come back to haunt Madhur Bhandarkar. A Mumbai court convicted Bhandarkar saying it will conduct an inquiry into rape charges by upcoming actress Preeti Jain in 2004.
THE PREETI JAIN rape case has come to fore again, with a Mumbai court convicting Madhur Bhandarkar saying it will conduct an inquiry into rape charges by upcoming actress Preeti Jain in 2004.
The Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate rejected the Police report that stated Jain's report as false and lacks evidence. The magistrate said further enquiry into the case will be conducted. Preeti Jain's statement will be recorded on December 22.
This means the Bollywood producer and director will now have to fight the case, though the court observed that Bhandarkar need not be arrested in the case. The news erupted in July 2004, when Preeti jain lodged a complaint accusing Bhandarkar of raping her several times between 1999 and 2004. “Madhur had promised to give me a lead role in his films. However, he didn’t offer me a lead role in any of his movies. At times when I refused, he raped me,” she said then. After the court announced further enquiry into the case Preeti Jain was and said to reporters outside the court, "The court's order rejecting the report is a stamp on the genuineness of my case."
