President Barack Obama signs health care bill
President Barack Obama signed the health care bill on Tuesday in the East Room of the White House.
President Barack Obama signed the $938 billion health care bill on Tuesday. The new health care bill will provide 32 million Americans health coverage, expand health plans for the poor, will impose new taxes to the rich and prevent insurance providers from refusing people with pre-existing medical conditions.
 

 

President Obama said, "Today, after almost a century of trying. Today, after over a year of debate. Today, after all the votes have been tallied, health insurance reform becomes law in the United States of America." Barack Obama also said "Here in this country we shape our own destiny. ... This is what makes us the United States of America."

 

 

 

According to the New Health Care Bill Summary, it prohibits federal funds from being used for abortion services and requires separate accounts for payments for such services. It also expands doctors and health care services, particularly in rural and underserved areas, increases loans made by schools to nursing students. It also expands various health care professional training programs.

 

 

 

Obama signed the new health care bill in the East Room of the White House, in front of 600 people that also included all 219 House members who voted in favor of health care bill on Sunday.
