President Kovind addresses annual convocation of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University in Surat
Addressing the annual convocation of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University on May 29, President Ram Nath Kovind said that the objective of education was to promote innovation and nurture freedom in thinking besides building capacities for a professional career, stated an official release.

Education should also teach us to respect sentiments of others as well work for the welfare of society, added the release while terming the Veer Narmad South Gujarat University as one bearing an important responsibility by serving the tribal student population.

He was happy to note that the Veer Narmad South Gujarat University is named after renowned Gujarati literary figure Veer Narmad, who was a nation builder and shaped Gujarati and Indian identity and worked for female empowerment, widow remarriage and similar causes.

He further said that the region of south Gujarat was an economic engine for the state in which Surat had made a significant contribution. The President held that the textiles and diamond industries were special to Surat and attracted workers from across the country and deserved to be called a mini-India.

The motto of the university is 'Satyam Gyanam Anantam' that not only serves the regional needs of education but also follows the emerging trends in the global scenario. It is said that all the departments emphasize interdisciplinary areas of study that can open up possibilities in new fields of research.
