President Kovind and Vice President Naidu greet people on Diwali
President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu greeted fellow citizens on the happy and joyous occasion of Diwali.

In his message, President Kovind said, "The festival of Diwali celebrates the victory of light over darkness, goodness over evil and justice over injustice. On this occasion, let us initiate efforts towards illuminating the lives of all with joy and prosperity and spread the light of love and fraternity. Let us share our happiness with the needy."

"Let us resolve to celebrate Diwali in a clean and pollution free manner as well as build a healthy, prosperous and sensitive nation and society," he urged.

Vice President Naidu, in his released message stated, "Deepawali signifies the victory of good over evil and encourages us to emulate the noble and virtuous qualities of Lord Rama. Also associated with Goddess Lakshmi - the harbinger of wealth, grace and prosperity - Deepawali is celebrated on a grand scale not only in India but all over the world by the people of Indian origin."

"Deepawali celebrations play an important role in promoting amity and harmony amongst the people. May this festival light up our lives and usher in peace, prosperity and happiness in our lives," he added.

The Green Diwali consists of lighting traditional earthen diyas and decoration with colourful rangoli artworks on the floor using coloured rice or powder besides cleaning homes, wearing new clothes, feasting, offering prayers and worship.
