President Kovind hosts one-day meet of Vice-Chancellors of Central Universities
Addressing the meeting of Vice-Chancellors of Central Universities on the issue of promotion of research and innovation, President Ram Nath Kovind, on May 2, at Rashtrapati Bhavan said that research and innovation were the bedrock of advancing knowledge, and knowledge alone held the key to finding solutions to the problems we faced in our world, nation and society; stated an official release.

He was of the view that it was at times not understood that research was a demanding profession and a researcher is almost always riding a roller coaster.

"Pursuing research demands constant determination from the researcher as well as full institutional support. Research is not a 9 am to 5 pm job and thus our approach towards supporting and promoting a research culture cannot be a pedantic one. Pursuing research demands constant determination from the researcher as well as full institutional support," said President Kovind in his inaugural address.

He urged the participating Vice-Chancellors saying, "As an immediate goal you should strive to become the best in the country and compete with each other in a healthy way. Thereafter, work towards competing with the world's best. Our central universities should be nurture and provide researchers and students every opportunity to excel in their research work and academic projects."

He also presented the 'Visitor's Awards for Research' in the field of basic and applied science as well as in the field of humanities, arts and social science.
