President Mukherjee condoles death of noted musician Balamuralikrishna and physicist M.G.K. Menon
President of India, Pranab Mukherjee condoled the passing away of the doyen of Carnatic Music, Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna and noted physicist Prof. M.G.K. Menon on November 23.

In a condolence message to Balamuralikrishna's wife, Smt. Annapurna, the President said, "I am sad to learn about the passing away of. Dr. Balamuralikrishna, a child prodigy, enthralled music lovers in the country and abroad with his unparalleled talent and marvellous compositions in various languages like Telugu, Sanskrit, Kannada and Tamil for around seven decades."

The President termed Balamuralikrishna a non-conformist, experimentalist, innovator and creative person, who not only contributed to the Carnatic music system, but was also involved in extensive research into music therapy.

President Mukherjee while condoling the passing away of physicist Prof. Menon, stated in his released message, "An acclaimed physicist and administrator, Prof. Menon will be long remembered for his service to the nation in various capacities including as MOS for Science and Technology and Education, Member, Planning Commission, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), President of Indian Statistical Institute, Director of TIFR, etc."

Recalling Prof. Menon's contribution in the field of Cosmic Rays and high-energy interactions of elementary particles, the President reminded that the asteroid 7564 Gokumenon was named in his honour in 2008.

In his message the President mentioned that Prof. Menon had played a prominent role in the development of science and technology in the country.
