President Pranab Mukherjee on Guru Nanak Jayanti: Imbibe revered Guru's noble teachings of brotherhood, compassion and love
Nation is celebrating the birth anniversary of the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev Ji (25 November, this year) who showed humanity the path of truth, humility, compassion, and righteousness through his own divine life.

The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee's greeted fellow countrymen on the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji, and said, "Guru Nanak Devji believed that service of man is supreme. He called upon all people to lead a moral and righteous life. May each one of us imbibe the revered Guru's noble teachings of brotherhood, compassion and love. Let us dedicate ourselves to the service of the downtrodden. As we celebrate Guru Nanak Devji's birthday, let us erase suspicion and hatred from our hearts and banish all violence from thought, word and deed".

M. Hamid Ansari, the Vice President of India, in his message urged for harmony and peace in our country and said, "Nanak Dev ji's divine teachings would forever inspire us to follow the path of righteousness and show respect for all humankind irrespective of caste, creed or religion."

Guru Nanak( 1469 - 1539), was born in the village of Talwandi, and grew up to become a saint of great caliber. According to SikhiWiki, Guru Nanak Dev ji realised God by singing virtues of God and following a life of true deeds. He only sang in the beautiful poetic forms of the time, often extemporaneously, with all his heart and soul, so much so that his singing became his meditation, his purification and his yugam. Here, yugam stands for yoking one's self to the Almighty by singing songs of His glory and praise.
