President presents an outline of key aims of Narendra Modi's govt
President of Pranab Mukherjee while addressing the joint session of the parliament said that the new government led by Narendra Modi is dedicated toward elimination of the poverty. The president said that the government will not be satisfied with mere poverty alleviation but commits itself to the goal of poverty elimination.
The Narendra Modi government will take effective steps to prevent hoarding and black marketing and containing food inflation would be the top most priority of the government. The government will also focus on those who need the basic necessities of life most urgently, President Pranab Mukherjee stated in his speech.

The new government will work on its commitment to minimum government, maximum governance. Mukherjee said, "This was an election of hope, the electorate transcended the boundaries of caste, creed religion to come together and vote precisely for the development through good governance. The country needed a strong and stable government that could provide effective leadership."

Addressing the defence and neighbourly relations, the President said, "We will work with South Asian leaders to revitalize Saarc. We won't shy away from raising issues of terrorism." There would be zero tolerance for terror and the defence forces would be strengthened, he added.

Declaring the set up of a national war memorial to honour India's martyrs, he said, "My government will address the issue of shortage of manpower in the defence forces immediately."

"When India will celebrate 75 years of Independence, every family will have pucca house, water facilities," the President promised on behalf of the Modi government. He also stressed on infrastructure development, low cost airports development to improve connectivity to the smallest towns.

On economic growth President Mukherjee promised on behalf of the new government that it was paramount for the government to bring the economy back on track. "The government's policies will be predictable, transparent and final," he quoted. Reforms would be undertaken to improve the ease of doing business in India and more jobs would be generated in the manufacturing sector.

He said that steps would be taken to make sure Kashmiri Pandits return to the land of their ancestors. The President also said that the government would do its level best to bring back all black money to the nation, while mentioning that a SIT had already been constituted to address the issue.
