President Pratibha Patil said that Lord Buddha taught us to be free from desires and end suffering by following path of right thinking and conduct. “May the teachings of the Enlightened One guide our thoughts and actions, and also inspire us to work for peace and harmony,” she wished.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said in his message, “The teachings of Lord Buddha of ahimsa, compassion and universal brotherhood are very relevant in today’s world. Let us imbibe the message of Lord Buddha to foster a peaceful and egalitarian world based on equality of all and work for the welfare of the downtrodden and underprivileged.”
