The members of Press Club met to have interaction over the problems being faced by the journalist fraternity in the field of journalism, on World Press Freedom Day, which is observed annually observed on May 3 to inform the international community that freedom of the press and freedom of expression are fundamental human rights.
Speaking on this meeting, Parminder Singh Thind, President said, this day reminds people that many journalists’ brave death or face jail to bring daily news to the public and express his concern over the degeneration and deterioration in journalism day by day. There is a need to make all out efforts to keep alive the basic moral values of journalism.
The other members expressing their views said, media is known as the 4th important pillar of democracy but its image is getting damaged slowly. They said, on the one hand the government system is bent upon to ruin the freedom of press whereas on the other hand, majority of the media workers are not performing their duties diligently.
On this World Press Freedom Day celebration, we all should pledge to keep alive the right and true voice of the freedom of the press and perform its duty wholeheartedly by keeping itself away from the government system and influential people, they said.
