It is reported that President and Prime Minister of India were absent from opening ceremony of 34th National Games now being held at Ranchi, because these national leaders didn't want to share dais with notorious Suresh Kalmadi.
THIS REFERS to media-reports indicating absence of President and Prime Minister of India from opening ceremony of 34th National Games now being held at Ranchi, because these national leaders did not want to share dais with former CWG chief Suresh Kalmadi, who was present there in his capacity as Chairperson of Indian Olympics Association (IOA).
If it is true, then it is a matter of still greater shame that despite so much corruption in CWG-2010, our system is a total failure as it has been unable to get rid of a person like Suresh Kalmadi from the IOA. Instead of President and Prime Minister allegedly shying away from National Games to avoid sharing dais with Suresh Kalmadi, Union Sports Ministry should take immediate steps to free sports-bodies from monopolistic rule of certain individuals and politicians.
This is the right time that action is taken against politicians and bureaucrats, who have been running sports bodies as their personal fiefdoms and raking in money and promoting their kith and kin in various sports. It is because of their nepotism and corruption that India has failed to make a mark in the world of sports as most of the money meant to develop the sports is siphoned off by these officials.
