Price rise: Will PM's assurance helps control inflation?
The PM's assurance on stabilizing or controlling the increasing food prices has provided a sort of relief to the public.
NOWADAYS INFLATION or price rise has become the chief issue of concern not only for the government but also for the citizens. An unexpected increase in the prices of commodities like sugar, milk, pulses, rice etc has left the citizens shocked and distressed.

Due to inflation or price rise, the one who ultimately suffers is THE common man and not the elite or other powerful people. According to the reports, there will be a hike in prices of petroleum products, LPG gas, kerosene oil and diesel in the coming days. The prices of petroleum products would go up by Rs. 100 and the price of kerosene oil would increase by Rs. 6 per liter.

Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh had expressed his concern and apprehension over the issue and said “With good crop prospects remunerative prices being in place and Indian prices broadly in line with International prices, we will soon be able to stabilize food prices.” The PM’s assurance on stabilizing or controlling the increasing food prices has provided a sort of relief to the public.

But Congress Minister’s statement on increasing prices of sugar has created havoc amongst the public. He said “If price of sugar has increased then one should consume less sugar as excessive sugar and salt is not good for health”. BJP ministers have also raised their voices against such remarks and are seeking solitions.

We should not forget that almost half of the population of our country lives below poverty line. There are people who work all day long just to earn two meals per day. Earlier, there were the reports of large number of farmers dying daily due to starvation and poverty. At that time also so many questions were put up on Food and Agricultural ministry of the country but the citizens did not get justified answers. Inflation has now become a natural phenomenon for the country. Earlier recession resulted in increased unemployment and now inflation; these social evils would only lead to more criminal activities, corruption, and lack of trust of people on the government.

This year our country has seen a slight growth in GDP and NDP but what about the improvement of standard of living of the people? Should people trust the government that there will be a fall in rising prices? It’s high time now that serious decisions be taken by the government keeping in mind the welfare of the country and her people.
