Private schools can't hike fees arbitrarily: SC
The Supreme Court of India on Friday held that private unaided schools do not have the right to hike fees. Only the government can regulate fees charged by private schools that must seek permission from Director Education before increasing fees.
THE SUPREME Court of India on Friday held that private unaided schools do not have the right to hike fees. The Court verdict said that these institutions need to seek permission from the director of education before increasing fees charged from students. The Apex Court made it clear that only the government could regulate the fees charged by private school, while hearing a plea by the Action Committee for Private Unaided Schools to reconsider its 2004 verdict which had upheld the authority of the Director of Education in this regard.

Unaided private schools had argued that in the wake of the Sixth Pay Commission report, schools had to pay higher salaries to teachers and as such they needed to factor in these increased costs in school fees. In the review petition, the Wnaided Private Schools’ Action Committee had also argued that the 2004 Apex Court judgment also went against the Delhi School Education Act. The court verdict would definitely boost the morale of parents who have been opposing the annual hike in school fees.

.my daughter`s tution fee qtrly was Rs 2250 in April 2006 and session fee was Rs 3450 annually. It is hiked to Rs 6000 each from April 2010.What %of Fees hike is permissible in 3 years.Parents don't speak up because of FEAR of child being mentally or physically tortured in school or being expelled from school or the parents being in bad books of the school.
.it is great decision to control fee hiking in Private school and one thing should have control about selling book ,copy ,dresses, shoes . parents should purchase from market and private school bother on children heavy study . that should stopped . AMITABH RANJAN JHA BHAWANIPUR PANDAUL MADHUBANI
.As per the 6th Pay Commision, the government has stated that teachers salaries must be hiked up 50-60%. Private schools must in line with government regulations also increase their tecahers salaries by a similar margin. Parents must realize that quality education in India comes at a price beacuse the government does not ensure quality education in its public schools. If the price hike in private schools is too much parents should be willing to send their children to the dingy public schools. Alas our government is not a reliable body.
.Government should have surprise Audits also as very often Parents are unwilling to protest as revolting with parents very often impacts carrer of their childrens. Fee hike in private schools is happening very commonly and the base fees are also too high.
.Great news for the parents who are being forced by the rutlhless private schools for the sake of quality education. We must get back the refund from these schools.
