According to the Labor Department report, private-sector employers added just 71,000 jobs in July. The jobless rate was still at 9.5 percent.
Labor Department report also said that the unemployment rate showed little or no change in July for adult men (9.7%), adult women (7.9%), teenagers (26.1%), whites (8.6%), blacks (15.6%), and Hispanics (12.1%).
About 8.5 million workers were working part-time even though they would prefer full-time work, according to the report. The Labor Department report further added that the nation lost 221,000 jobs in June, it was more than the 125,000 jobs that was originally reported. In Leisure and Hospitality categories, job creation of 44,000 in June, was the only area that showed some positive result.
Since December 2007, the start of the recession, nearly 8.5 million jobs has been lost. In October, joblessness reached a 26-year high of 10.1 percent in the U.S. However, according to the report released by the Labor Department on Friday August 6, average hourly earnings rose 4 cents to $22.59 in July and the average work week for all workers in July increased to 34.2 hours from 34.1 hours in June.
