Taking an example from the west, private security in India should be given a boost to provide people with security options. In many cases, they undertake regular night time patrolling along with police patrolling.

WHENEVER WE talk of law enforcement agencies, government recruited police personnel always figure foremost. In many countries, private security has helped in better reinforcement of rule and order by actively collaborating with Government Policing Departments. Therefore, it is time a big push is given to recruitment of private security agencies. In developed countries, they undertake regular night time patrolling along with police patrolling. They are also allowed to carry speaker phones.

It has been observed that response time for on-site security guards is very quick compared with calling for outside help during a security event. Many firms in India depend on private security and results are very encouraging. Routine patrols, video surveillance, computer and control room operations and overall knowledge of the property enables efficient security of the premises. Surveillance is very important to overall property security. Hiring of private security is not very expensive.

Professional private security firms have strict and rigorous training in place for their guards. Training is often more stringent and specific to the business or residential community than overall police training.

Security audit is again a common agenda item for many established firms where minute details are regularly checked and cross-checked for overall smooth proceedings.

In view of the vast array of benefits accruing through recruitment of private security, government and concerned agencies must explore ways and means of introducing private security in as many areas as possible including all unexplored areas because safety and security both will get a good boost resulting in controlling wastage.
