Priyanka Chopra is second Indian Oscars presenter after Persis Khambatta
Priyanka Chopra has hit the headlines ever since her name has appeared among the list of presenters for the 88th Academy Awards to be held on February 28 in Los Angeles. Chopra will be joining Hollywood A-listers to present the Oscars this year including Tina Fey, Reese Witherspoon, Steve Carell, J.K. Simmons and Jared Leto.

Since the news came out about Chopra being one of the Oscars presenters, the Desi girl has become talk of the town. But, Priyanka is not the first Indian to present an Oscar award.

The first Indian Oscars presenter was model-actress and author Persis Khambatta. She presented the Academy Awards in the year 1980. Here, you can watch a video of William Shatner and Persis Khambatta at the Academy Awards:

The super-talented actress-model Khambatta was best recognized for featuring in Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The Indian actress played the character of Lieutenant Ilia in the year 1979 in the well-known movie.

At the age of 13, Persis started off her career in glamor world at a very young age. She first appeared in advertisement, followed by her participation in Femina Miss India and Miss Universe beauty pageant. In 1998, Khambatta died of heart attack at the age of 49.
