Priyanka Chopra likely to be Incredible India's sole brand ambassador as Big B's name drowns in Panama Canal
Quoting govt sources, ANI reported on Monday that Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan's nomination as the brand ambassador of Incredible India has been put on hold in wake of the Panama Papers leak.

Sources said that although the decision had to be taken this month, but now has been delayed until Big B gets a clean chit.

After leaks from the Panama law firm Mossack Fonseca went public, linking him to offshore companies, Amitabh Bachchan had issued a statement that his name had been misused and he had no knowledge that such firms existed in his name. The leaks also mentioned the name of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, his daughter-in-law and Bollywood actress.

With Big B almost out of contention in the race for becoming the brand ambassador of Incredible India, the Indian government's global campaign to promote tourism in the country, all focus has now shifted to Priyanka Chopra.

Priyanka has lately been on a roll and barely a week ago was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honour. If sources are to be believed, Priyanka is all set to become the sole brand ambassador of Incredible India.

What went in favour of Priyanka is her status as an international celebrity. Priyanka became the first south Asian actress to bag the "favourite actress in a new TV series" at the People's Choice Awards in January this year. She also became the first Indian actress to present an award at this year's Oscars, in the category for best editing.

At the home front the actress received rave reviews for her stellar performance in the blockbuster Bajirao Mastani, for her portrayal of Kashi Bai, Bajiorao's first wife.

According to sources, Priyanka is being more preferred as she is an international icon and her image could go a long way in attracting international tourists to India, as the country is not considered a safe destination for women tourists.

The names of Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra had been doing rounds as possible replacements of Aamir Khan, who had been the brand ambassador of Incredible India for almost a decade, until his infamous "intolerance" remarks had led to his ouster from the campaign.

Union Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma however, while speaking to the media on the sidelines of an event on Tuesday refused to confirm that Bachchan's name had been dropped. He said that the ministry was yet to take a decision.
