ICC Cricket World Cup 2015
Probe must to find out the authenticity of World cup trophy
There is an uproar in the media that the world cup trophy given to the winning Indian team is a fake as the original has been confiscated by the Customs department for non-payment of tax. The government must order an inquiry into this fiasco.
INDIAN MEDIA is flooded with pictures of Cricket World Cup being held by three winning captains in the year 1999, 2003 and 2011, which clearly establish that the Cup in hands of Indian Captain MS Dhoni in the year 2011 is different from that held by winning captains in the year 1999 and 2003.
There are also reports that the ‘real’ world-cup is in the custody of Indian custom-officials. Indian government should probe the matter and if the Cup given to Indian captain is found fake, strict action should be taken against International Cricket Council (ICC) and its President.
It was unfair that the Union Cabinet decided to give a tax-waiver for the super-rich ICC - that too in presence of ICC President Sharad Pawar who was present in the cabinet meeting that took the decision.
Propriety demands reversal of the decision as there was definitely a conflict of interest involved. It is time that rules be amended in which ministers and parliamentarians getting salary from exchequer be barred from holding any post in private bodies and even in their own political parties.
It is important that the politicians who are ruling the country do not have any conflict of interest and as such should not be running private organisations simultaneously.
