Protect unity to ensure harmony for the future of Malaysia, appeals PM
Today, it is Malaysia Day to commemorate the establishment of the Malaysian federation on this date in 1963 by merging Malaya, North Borneo, Sarawak, and Singapore to form Malaysia.

THE FORMATION of Malaysia was made possible through the introduction of the Malaysia Bill to the Malayan Parliament in 1963. On this day, all over the country, the celebratory mood is evident with shops and public and private buildings flying the Jalur Gemilang, while colourful fish-tails stressing togetherness, are hanging along the roads and billboards.

It is claimed by country's leadership that over the years, Malaysia has evolved from an agricultural country into a modern industrialized nation as a result of systematic planning and sustainable implementation of its industrial policies despite its demographic diversity of unusual cultural complexity.

This year's Malaysia Day rally is being be held in Bintulu on Sunday to commemorate the 49th anniversary of the formation of the country urging people to hold high moral values within their beliefs and culture and not fail to fail them.

In his message, Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak, has reminded Malaysians to continue to strongly protect the success in uniting the people of various races, religions and cultures in the country.

“This diversity in the country’s socio-culture is the country’s main asset and must be preserved and expanded under the 1Malaysia concept,” he said.

He expressed his happiness with increasing foreign investments, higher per capita income, better healthcare, public transport and infrastructure and longer life expectancy. United Nations Conference on Trade and Development has ranked the country as a top host country for Foreign Direct Investments in 2011-2013.

With modernisation and economic growth, the quality of life of Malaysians has improved as result of 'a passionate government that is action oriented and result-driven'.
