Though officials had to face agitated traders at various points but that failed to stop the rampaging bulldozers, which kept on razing encroachments to the ground.
NAGAR NIGAM and ADA jointly led an anti-encroachment drive in Civil Lines. Zonal Officer, Sumit Kumar and Joint Secretary, Baijnath led the demolition drive at Hot Stuff and Palace Cinema crossing.
Traders argued with officials during the demolition drive but a bull-dozer removing encroachments kept on doing its job. However, officials had to face massive protest from traders at Hot Stuff crossing. Traders gheraoed joint secretary. ADA, Baijnath and remained adamant on preventing demolition squad from razing the shop of Late, Ashok Sonkar, which is being run by his wife. She showed papers to officials that court has already granted stay over the shop.
On the contrary, Nagar Nigam and ADA official refused to budge from their stand and ordered anti-encroachment squad to proceed further with the demolition drive. The owner of the shop accompanied by traders came in front of bull-dozer, which compelled police to resort to cane charge.
Protesting traders fled from the spot after the intervention of police and shop was razed to ground, with immediate effect. Moreover, anti- encroachment squad sealed two shops at Stretchy road and proceeded towards Palace cinema crossing where two shops were razed. Zonal Officer, Sumit Kumar said that Nagar Nigam will continue the anti-encroachment drive along with ADA to ensure widening of roads.
