MILLIONS OF French nationals came out in protest against governments proposed reforms for new retirement age. The protesters continued for the second week in France demonstrating against the proposal to make retirement age 62 years instead of the current age which is 60 years.

The protests have entered the second week nearly crippling the nation as millions have come out on the streets and blocked the fuel depots and other supplies affecting life in the country.

The tankers are lined up outside the capital city Paris. The fuel depots were blocked and this has severely affected the country’s transportation and forced the government to pass the orders to unblock the depots as the fuel shortage had started to affect flights also. Some fuel depots were unblocked later on. There were some violent scenes witnessed during the protest.

Thousands of students have joined the strike and are protesting as they feel if the current proposed bill to increase the retirement age is passed then there will be job shortage for them in the future. The country is totally crippled by the continuing strikes and protests specially the transportation and fuel supply is severely affected.

Public as well as private unions, associations have joined the protests including the schools, banks, factory workers unions, hospitals and the transport workers. The train services are affected and some flights are also cancelled. The reform bill will get the final vote by Sunday, which will decide the fate of next generation. The lower house in the parliament has already passed the new reform bill. The French government says they are unable to afford the earlier retirement payments.
