India's remote sensing satellite Oceansat-2, along six foreign satellites, was successfully launched by the PSLV-14 from Sriharikota space station on Wednesday, September 23.
A POLAR satellite launch vehicle (PSLV-C-14) of the Indian Space research organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched its Oceansat-2 and six other foreign nano satellites from the Satish Dhawan space centre, Sriharikota (Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh) at 11.51am on Thursday, September 23.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has congratulated the scientists of ISRO and said that this launch has proved the worthiness of the Indian space scientists and the PSLV has demonstrated its versatility. The President Pratibha Patil and Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari have also lauded the work of the scientists.
Vice President Ansari also reached Sriharikota on Tuesday, September 22, to attend the launching programme.
This is sixteenth experiment of the PSLV series and it has the weight of 960 Kgs. The Indian Oceansat-2 satellite aboard the launch vehicle shall work for five years, sending requisite information once in two days. This satellite will give the weather information of the oceans, providing a range of services for both fishermen and scientists.
