A MODERATE scale earthquake struck Puerto Rico, during the early hours of Sunday. The 5.7 scale Puerto Rico earhquake struck four miles from the small community of Espino. Though not much injuries were reported from the quake, many houses in the western and northern towns suffered some damage.
According to the US Geological Survey, the 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck at 1:16 AM local time at the Caribbean Island. Though the epicentre of the quake was still 63 miles from Puerto Rico's capital, San Juan, the tremors were felt there by those living in high rise buildings.
According to the Puerto Rico emergency management agency, the quake cracked concrete foundations of some buildings in Florida, Lares, Moca, Utuado and Vega Baja towns. Melinda Simeonides, the agency spokeswoman said, the tremors had also spilled some rocks on a highway in Utuado.
