The four time world women's champion Mary Kom was suspended due to dishonourable sports activities after the pugilist lost her temper, sore from a defeat and claimed that she had lost due to favouritism and regionalism.
WORLD RENOWNED women boxing champion Mary Kom has been suspended for indulging in dishonourable sports activities by the Indian Boxing Federation on Monday, October 6.
The four time world women’s champion who has been awarded many prestigious awards, lost her temper when she lost her quarter final bout in the women’s national boxing championship in Jamshedpur.
After losing the bout to Pinki Jingra of Haryana, Kom claimed that she lost because of the Haryana lobby, which showed clear favouritism and regionalism while awarding points. Mary Kom lost the bout in count back after the quarter final bout ended on 15-15. She also accused IBF senior official Rakesh Thakran and Anup Kumar of regionalism and discrimination.
Rakesh Thakran who is also the IBF coordinator clarified his stance in the face of Kom’s allegations. He said “The five judges occupying the chairs were from different parts of the country, Delhi, Chhatisgarh, West Bengal, and Nagaland . When this is the scenario-how does a leading pugilist like Mary Kom hurl remarks of regionalism and favouritism.”
