Punjab to host national seminar on 'Rehabilitation of Teacher Education: A Challenge'
Teacher education in our country is lacking professionalism and with privatisation of degree and diploma courses of teacher development, paper degrees are being dished out.

Moreover, in educational conferences, no research papers are presented on the teacher education indicating that the teacher educators neither teach well nor do any research.

In such a scenario, it is heartening that Punjab is going to host one-day national seminar on "Rehabilitation of Teacher Education: A Challenge". The main purpose of the seminar is to set the avenues for prospective teacher education; identify the ways and resources for strengthening educational leadership; and decide the professional ethics for teachers and teacher educators.

The seminar is going to be held at Punjab's Shivalik College of Education, Mustfabad Jattan, in collaboration with the Global Educational Research Association (GERA) on April 28.

The topics for seminar are such as the Teacher Education: Retrospect and Prospect; Issues and Problems of Teacher Education; Teacher Education and Role of Educational Bodies; NCTE and QCI on Teacher Education; Teacher Education and role of Private Managements; Teacher Education and Educational Leadership; Teacher Education: Private and Government Sector; Research & Innovation in Teacher Education; Teacher Education and Innovative Practices in Education; and Professional Ethics for Teachers & Teacher Education.

According to the concept note of the seminar, the quality of education depends upon the quality of teachers since they are the backbone of the education system, the makers of mankind and the architects of the society. "It is well known that the quality and extent of student achievement are determined primarily by teacher competence, sensitivity and teacher motivation. Teacher education holds the most crucial position in the education system today," underscores the note.
