AN EARTHQUAKE that struck 60 miles, approximately 100 kilometres, beneath the ocean floor in Bali in Indonesia apart from causing widespread destruction on Thursday also triggered the fears of another 2006 style quake-caused Tsunami that left 230,000 people dead.

The earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale, as per the data released by the US Geological Department did not have the potential of sending the island struck by a tsunami. The popular resort island, which is flocked by tens and thousands of tourists from across the globe throughout the year, did leave some broken heads and bones due to the earthquake. The injured also included some students and three teachers. A doctor who attended the kids was quoted saying by the Times of India saying, “Two students are still under observation. They suffered head wounds when roof tiles crashed on them. The others received outpatient treatment for cuts and have gone home”.
Locals said that walls of temples and schools saw massive cracks due to the quake along the coast, and roofs of homes had also come down. Indonesia, which falls in the ring of fire in the pacific is prone to frequent quakes as occasionally when the continental plates meet, it increases seismic activity.
