Racist attacks on Indians receive criticism
Indian students are being subjected to discrimination and harassment in Australia, around 35 students have been injured in these attacks and are undergoing treatment. These attacks have recieved criticism from all over the world
THE RECENT attacks on Indians in Australia have raised an alarm in the minds of the Indian people who are living abroad and for those whose kins are living out of country. These attacks have received worldwide criticism. Indian students are being subjected to discrimination and harassment in Australia and within the past three months, around 35 students have been injured in these attacks and are undergoing treatment.
Australian continent is not the only place where radical faces of racism have been raising sphere. Such bad incidents have been taking place in countries like United Kingdom, Germany, France and many African and Gulf countries also. According to student's organisations, these racist attacks have been taking place in Australia for quite some time; most of them went unreported. According to one report about 20 racial attacks on Indians have taken place in Sydney alone in the previous month.
Like many other areas, the uneven development in the field of education has created a dangerous in equilibrium. The affluence of these students studying abroad or working guys who earns handsome salaries in big firms betrays in their life styles and attracts opportunistic activities by teens who have been already suffering from a sense of inferiority complexes. These complexes find way in such illegal acts blended with racism.
Many colonies have gained independence from colonial powers, with the passage of time but there are some backward minds who still believe in king’s rule and still they are not aware about the word 'Democracy'. They think that whatever they are doing is good for their country but if the same situation comes in front of them then they will come to know what they have did with the others.
When we talk about the history, we can say that the Australians were good whether in the field of economy or politics but now they are going to make another history by doing such disastrous acts. Their past had been excellent but future is full of extreme competition. In the present global financial regime, every one, may it be individual or nation has to find a place for itself not on the basis of its past but on the basis of its present.
There is no doubt that the economic stability in India has provided the people with the opportunity to get educated, to change their way of living and to make their life flourish. But it is really bad to say that the religious things, which are deep rooted are still prevalent in the society.
Citing racial attacks on Indians in Australia, Bollywood's biggest labour union, Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), has banned its members from working Down Under. Many of Bollywood films like Dil Chahta Hai, Salaam Namaste, Chak De! India and Heyy Baby have been shot in Australia but Bollywood now wants to take a tough stand and has united in raising its voice against the attacks. Even, Mega Star Amitabh Bachchan rejected an honorary doctorate from a Brisbane University, in protest.
These kinds of attacks will create a sense among everyone to think about it and to find the reason that why these things are happening? But we will have to say that whenever such unpleasant incidents happen they may result in violent backlashes. But the kind of self-control, which has been showed by Indians in Australia and abroad is indicative of the fact that feeling of non-violence and Satyagraha are still alive in our soul.
