Rahane has proved to be a class act, says former Indian cricketer
Merinews.com spoke to former Indian cricketer Karsan Ghavri, about the knock that was played by..

“T20 IS not all about slogging,” says former Indian cricketer Karsan Ghavri. If one watched Ajinkya Rahane bat yesterday against Kings XI Punjab in his first IPL match this season, one would have to agree with what the former Indian cricketer has to say. His innings of 98 runs had class written all over it. It was not at all about taking the shine off the ball. It was an innings in which proper cricketing strokes ruled the roost. Rahane, with his innings, has shown that T20 can also be played diligently by small-framed players. You do not need powerful arms and wrists to muscle the ball over the fence.

Ajinkya Rahane is a player who has come up from the ranks of Indian domestic cricket. He has been one of the most consistent players, while scoring runs for Mumbai. As a result of which, he has represented India in national colours too. But, with many openers in the Indian side at present, namely Sachin Tendulkar, V. Sehwag, Gautam Gambir in coloured clothing, he has not got a good chance to represent India.

Ghavri says, “Young players will get their chance. It is just a matter of time”. He has a great chance of travelling with the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup. If given a chance, he can definitely show his skills against any quality bowling. He does not depend on bludgeoning the ball, but on sheer timing and splitting the gaps, which is essential for any cricketer. He adds, “He has to strike, whenever he gets a chance to play for India”. This would be a great way to knock on the Indian selector’s door for all format of the game.

“Rahane has proved himself to be a class act,” says Ghavri. He has talent in abundance. He has to be careful in not following another talented Mumbai batsman, Rohit Sharma, who has failed to perform consistently for India at the international level. Still, much is expected from the young lad (Rahane) from Mumbai after his impressive knock yesterday. Ghavri summarises it aptly by saying, “He has a very good career ahead of him. He is going to serve Indian cricket for a long time”.
