Indian music maestro AR Rahman has finally brought home the Golden Statue. He has won the Oscar in two categories namely, Best Original Score and the Best Song. Indian sound technician Resul Pookutty also won the Oscar for Best Sound Mixing
“AND THE Oscar for original score goes to AR Rahman!” Yes, that’s true. India’s ace composer and singer AR Rahman has finally succeed in bringing home the Oscar for his brilliant song Jai Ho in the movie Slumdog Millionaire.
And just before one billion proud Indians could let the news sink in, the most popular composer along with one of the greatest lyricists of Hindi Cinema graced the country with another Oscar for Best Original Song.
Rahman was nominated twice in the second category for the compositions Jai Ho and O Saya.
He had earlier won a lot of international acclaim with the prestigious and India’s first Golden Globe for Jai Ho. He was nominated in three categories in the Oscars.
The movie Slumdog Millionaire, directed by British director Danny Boyle, has been nominated in nine different categories, including Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Sound Mixing, etc.
The movie has already claimed six awards out of nine nominations. Indian sound technician Resul Pookutty has won the Oscar for Best Sound Mixing.
Two other documentaries based on Indian children are also in the Oscar run tonight.
