Rahul asks students to join politics for public service
The interaction was aimed at Gandhi's efforts to 'democratise' the Youth Congress and National Students Union of India. The programme followed the same line from start to end that upset the youth brigade.
THE ALL India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and MP Rahul Gandhi today said the youth should put in place a quality control system, while electing leaders and advised them to become their own role models rather than looking to others.

He encouraged the youth to take active part in public life and even join politics with service as motto, for that he said the National Students Union of India (NSUI) was a great platform. Rahul Gandhi as part of the Maharashtra tour interacted with about 1200 students of various Colleges in Aurangabad on Tuesday.

Students put his articulation skills to test as his interaction witnessed arguments on various issues. The students were unhappy as he did not elucidate solutions on problems but asked students to become a part of system to change it.

Distinguishing the difference between India and abroad, the Congress MP said that though we are worried about our huge population, many nations are facing crunch of manpower.

Final year student of Government Engineering College, Swapnil Vaidya said he was impressed by this answer and it has changed his mind. Replying to a question on brain drain, Rahul asked students not to be concerned about it.

On corruption in politics, Rahul asked students not to blame others but join politics and clear the stables themselves. He said political background and money power are not basic requirement to join politics.  However, Rahul deferred replying a question on Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone gunman in 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, who was caught by the police.

The interaction was aimed at Gandhi's efforts to 'democratise' the Youth Congress and National Students Union of India. The programme followed the same line from start to end that upset the youth brigade. Rahul first addressed the students for 30-35 minutes and later answered 12-15 questions. He got delayed by 30 minutes in Aurangabad after participating in a similar interaction event in Akola of Vidarbha. After the event he flew to Pune.

Tight security was ensured to avoid any untoward incident. NSUI president Hibi Eden accompanied him.
