Rahul Dravid and his consistency is missed in Indian cricket
Today is Rahul Dravid's birthday as he turns 40, and Indian cricket fans are missing the player a great deal in the current Indian team. He has been one of the best solid performers for India in the last decade or so. He was the wall of the Indian cricket team, whose consistency and attitude in the game gained everyone's respect from all around the world.

THERE ARE a number of messages on social networking sites likeTwitter, wishing him happy birthday. But, there were some who apart from wishing him also went a step ahead and talked about the player's contribution and how badly India misses the player's presence. One such Twitter user with tweet handle ‏@krithika_v tweeted, “Rahul Dravid's 40th birthday today... We need to notice that a new wall for Team India is still under construction since he left...” The Indian team is in serious need for his replacement and as of now, only Cheteshwar Pujara seems to be the best person to fill his shoes.

Pujara is a young batsmen who has been scoring big in the domestic circuit and has looked good for India whenever he has played. But, the challenges that lie ahead of the player are huge – especially to replicate Dravid's performance. Another twitter user, with tweet handle @Bluffmaster_AB tweet read “Happy bday Sir Rahul Dravid.. Even 11 youngsters combined can not replace you.. #Legend”

He has given some beautiful memories to the Indian team, where some of his special innings remain fresh in the memories of Indian cricket fans such as his debut innings, where he was just five runs short of a century in 1996. This innings of his on foreign soil established that the player was ready to face world class bowlers at any level of cricket and any format.

Since then the player has only seen an upward climb. Apart from the above mentioned innings, some other innings where he showed his class includes 148 against South Africa in Johannesburg against South Africa, which was also his first hundred in Tests. Another great achievement was his hundreds in both the innings of Hamilton Test in New Zealand, 1999, with the score reading – 190 and 103 runs. It is obvious that the Indian team are missing on the services of Dravid, as his record away from home was one of the best among the Indian batsmen. The Indian team record of late with the bat has been dismal in both home as well as foreign conditions.

He scored his first double hundred in Delhi against Zimbabwe, which was followed by another century in the next Test match scoring 162 runs in the year 2000. There has been very few Indian batsmen far and between so consistent in his batting prowess. He had made it a habit of scoring regular hundreds, as he also scored four centuries in continuous matches (3 against England and 1 against West Indies).

Another noticeable innings of 180 runs in Eden Gardens against Australia in 2001 was one of his most memorable ones. He might not have a good year in 2012 but had a good year in 2011 scoring 5 centuries. In his ODI career as well, he was consistent scoring more than 10, 000 runs against his name. Another tweet with tweeter handle @madversity read, “Happy Birthday Rahul Dravid. Understated class is what we are missing” These scores just reflect upon the great career he had as a cricketer.

The recent performances against England in the Test series has highlighted the vacuum he has created in the Indian team after his retirement. He may not be able to help the Indian team with the bat but can help the Indian batsmen in teaching them the skills of batsmanship by becoming the coach of the Indian cricket team, which is only possible if BCCI appoints him for the job. It could benefit Indian cricket and it is also the best way for Dravid to give back to the game, which gave him name and fame.
