His father Rajiv Gandhi too was a reluctant entrant in to the politics. He became Prime Minister of India before he knew what politics is due to assassination of his mother Indira Gandhi. But he was a visionary. He wanted real changes in the system of the nation. But because he had not established himself as a true leader, had to follow the infamous coterie resulting his visions remained sidelined and he was forced to commit mistakes.
However he lost the election because of his poor performance and corruption by his colleagues. But after losing the election, he started re-establishing himself as true leader and did all those hard work, which made many to start believing that had he wouldn’t assassinated he would had been the best visionary statesman India ever had. In fact subsequent P.V. Narasimha Rao and even Atal Bihari Vajapayee's governments worked on his vision and own leadership to contribute a lot to India.
His mother Sonia Gandhi too after Rajiv's assassination distanced herself from politics for more than half a decade. But when she found a leader in herself, dared to be leader of Congress party and established as a true leader who brought back Congress to power from the point of extinct!
Rahul got around a decade. During this decade he was not only reluctant in developing himself as a true leader, rather took the party and the nation for granted. Except some tokenism and some arrogant drama he didn’t do anything. Neither he found a leader in self nor did he try to be a leader at least inside the party. He just thought that because he is a scion of Gandhi dynasty, people would automatically believe and trust him as a leader!
A decade is a very long time. If one doesn’t prove himself a leader in this period, he can’t be a leader in his life time. His address to AICC on 17th January 2014 was definitely very passionate and aggressive but people knowing simple politics can counter him at his every sentence, every word and every slogan. Clapping do comes as sycophancy but public aren’t fool.
Here I would be coming with point by point rebuff proving that projecting himself as an opponent of own party government nowadays doesn’t fool public. Proof is, even after Manmohan Singh’s declaration to not become PM candidate next time; Congress party couldn’t muster courage to portray Rahul Gandhi as their next Prime Ministerial candidate.
I will prove Sonia’s version wrong that the Congress never has projected a PM candidate. In fact the general election of 2014 is only time when the Congress doesn’t have any official Prime Ministerial candidate! I would put it in my next article.
Some of my hard core Congress's friends confessed in front of me that they desperately want Priyanka Gandhi as their leader. They see Priyanka’s face and style as appealing as Indira Gandhi's. They have got serious doubts that perhaps Sonia Gandhi has a gender bias and because of this she promotes Rahul ahead of Priyanka. I never agreed on this neither disagreed because of Rahul’s immature and childlike approach to the politics.
In any case it’s not only proved but also accepted by even in the Congress party (directly or indirectly) that Rahul Gandhi has no leadership material.
