Rahul Gandhi's snooping: It's so-called; Congress trying to make mountain out of a molehill!
How to create a controversy out of a non-issue, one can learn this art from the Congress think tank, which termed the routine security check and profiling of VVIPs as snooping by the present NDA government against Rahul Gandhi.
What's the matter? An Assistant Sub-Inspector has entered in to Rahul Gandhi's office, took SPG's permission to talk to the office bearer and handed over a format to fill up. The office people asked the ASI to leave the format there and and reportedly told him that the filled up format would be returned after couple of days. The ASI returned with a hope to get back the format as promised little knowing that there would be such a huge controversy.

Here let me tell some facts. The profiling of MPs and VVIP's started since 1957 under the Congress rule. More detailed format is introduced since 1999. Sonia Gandhi filled up such format four times in 1998, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. Other MP's including present prime minister, present president, and former prime minister Vajapayee, also filled up such forms. This was in practice for long time and during UPA governments too such profiling was done for security reasons. A many as 526 MPs had already been profiled before Rahul Gandhi controversy erupted.

If all those VIP's including the Congress President Sonia Gandhi, present Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah filled that form without any hue and cry, why questions are being raised in the case Rahul Gandhi? Does Congress think that because Rahul is a Gandhi scion, he is unique and special? If Sonia Gandhi can fill up the form then why can't Rahul Gandhi do the same? Does the Congress think that Rahul Gandhi is above the system and Indian democracy?

One can understand that this story is cooked although immaturely. When the ASI left the form, some enthusiastic Congress man thought of using this to blame BJP. It was selectively leaked to a newspaper and then press conference by senior Congress leaders was organised along with protests in front of Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh's residence. The Congress spokesperson, Abhishek Manu Singhvi even expressed that such snooping may be a Gujarat model and not India model.

This strategy in fact worked very well although for a shorter period. Initially people also started smelling something wrong in government's intentions. But then it was Delhi's Commissioner of Police, and then the media that that presented the actual picture behind profiling episode. But then it was Delhi's Commissioner of Police, who firstly clarified that this was routine process and then Indian media dug out the entire details of such routine security profiles. I have seen that the Congress spokespersons remained on back foot and even dodged questions posed by news hosts.

Will Singhvi now answer on which model such profiling was done during the UPA time? Can the Congress prove Rahul's security profiling is just one of the cases with vested interest? You can shout inside the Parliament and do some walk outs. But fact is that the farcical snoop gate cover is blown.

I just recollect the issue of 'office of the profit' some years ago. An enthusiastic Congress man alleged that Samajwadi Party's member Jaya Bachchan was holding office of profit. Then Jaya had to resign. But after that, things became so clumsy, that even Sonia Gandhi had to resign for the same allegation as Jaya Bachchan. It's another matter, the UPA government then made some offices out of 'office of profit list' applying it on retrospectively. In this case too Congress's strategy would back fire and party has to be embarrassed.

Point is simple. The Congress ship is sinking. It's time to plug the holes to save the ship. But some Congressmen with overenthusiastic attitude are just digging further holes! Isn't the Congress is in a self destructive mode? Isn't such cooked up propaganda do damage to the party? What's the point in making a mountain out of a molehill? Will Congress do some introspection and stop this farcical non-issue drama?
