Rahul Mahajan proves domestic violence act is useless in Indian homes
This is a fact that women in India are the primary targets and victims of male bashing. Reports tell that almost 55% married women, aged between 20 - 49 suffer domestic violence at the hands of their husbands and other family members.

IN INDIA, every satellite channel and media house is continuing to highlight the so called superman Rahul Mahajan and his reality show wife Dimpy Ganguly walking out of his home. Media is still following him madly and portraying this wife beater as a hero just to grab more eyeballs and fill the space in newspapers, websites and channels with titillating news. However, the media has failed to ask the right questions and explain the reasons why this is happening despite India having a strong domestic violence act.

This is a fact that women in India are the primary targets and victims of male bashing. Reports tell that almost 55% married women, aged between 20 - 49 suffer domestic violence at the hands of their husbands and other family members.

Mostly husbands (abusers) treat their spouses badly in home, ignore and blame them for small things, try to put their opinion down and act excessively jealously. They do not forget to control their wives by limiting access to money, the phones, the car and even prevented the women from seeing their friends and family.

Reports also speak of males using a variety of means to erode the self-esteem of women and make them powerless. In order to increase a woman's dependence on him, abusers stop paying them their earning (in case of home makers they do not forget to saying “mein kamata hoon” I am earning, what are you doing). Abusers commonly use threats to keep their partners from leaving or to scare them into dropping charges or throwing them from home. Even they threaten to commit suicide, file false charges against wives or try to misuse of male dominated power.

In most cases abusers give clear message that if wives do not obey, there will be violent consequences. They are very good at making excuses for inexcusable. Denial and blame are weapons to hide their deceitful nature and they commonly shift the responsibility of their violent and abusive behavior on spouses. Most abusers are out of control, however, they are able to immediately stop their abusive behavior when it’s to their advantage to do so (for example, when the police shows up or their boss calls).

A report says that there is need for reform in domestic violence act and the marriage certificate laws which are necessary for all married couples. Government and Women rights association must ensure that a spouse has equal rights in husband's earning. Men should be made to sign an undertaking that would be taking full responsibility of spouses and 2/3 of income should go to spouses.
