Raid on Eagleton Resort – symptom of vendetta and witch hunt!
Raids on opposition premises are one of the oldest ruses of ruling regimes to intimidate the opposition around the globe since time immemorial. The excuses of this action could vary with every situation.

In countries where the rule of law runs supreme, the executive wing of the country behaves more responsible, independent and refuses to cow down before the power-de-jure. However, in weaker democracies where the ruling junta behave like the democratic despots, the official machinery plays safe and follows the wishes and dictates of the political party in power.

In the name of 'accountability for the corrupt' the official institutions come harder on every formation of opposition. This broadside is simply known as "revenge and vendetta politics." Usually these raids are made to "silence the voice of dissent" or to frustrate the efforts of opposition to rise for the occasion that might be embarrassing to the ruling party.

The prime investigation agency of India – CBI and other agencies (given funny names in past) have been used by Congress party and others also to intimidate the opposition from time to time. However, the recent raid by the IT department at the Eagleton Resort near Bengaluru this morning, where 44 Congress MLAs from Gujarat are currently residing stands out as a glaring example for blatant absolute abuse by power drunk BJP.

The shifting of loyalties and sporting of different colors is an art long perfected by Indian politicians to trim the sail according to the wind. WE have seen this drama just a few days back in Bihar.

To protect the poaching of its remaining MLA's by BJP, ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections in Gujarat, the poor Congress party had herded the MLAs to the southern state of Karnataka, where it is in power. Mr Shivakumar, the minister of power, is given the responsibility to upkeep of these MLAs. Wasting no time, and clearly to browbeat these secluded MLAs, the officials conducted searches in 39 locations related to Shiva as well the other intended venues. It would be interesting to note that just two days before Gujarat MLAs had landed at this resort where they were to rest, got Rs 982-crore penalty bill.

Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel on Wednesday called the Income Tax raids, conducted in 39 locations in connection with Karnataka Energy Minister DK Shivakumar, a 'witch-hunt' by the BJP. Patel, who is in contention for one of the three Rajya Sabha seats from Gujarat, added that the searches show the party's 'utter desperation and frustration'. The agency recovered Rs five crore in cash from Shivakumar's Delhi residence, reported news agency PTI. Patel said, "BJP is on an unprecedented witch-hunt just to win one Rajya Sabha seat."

It is for anyone to observe that "revenge and vendetta" has become the "DNA" of this BJP government. Why can't this regime apply the same yardstick of supposed morality to leaders in their own party who have been accused of corruption?

Apart the monumental VYAPAM GHOTALA which is a 24 / 365 / 3,4,5 – a whirring continuum of corruption, murders and suicides etc, according to a report of the National Election Watch – Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), post-reshuffle out of 19 new ministers inducted in the union cabinet, seven have criminal cases against them and out of the seven, three Cabinet ministers have serious criminal charges like attempt to murder, communal rioting, violation of electoral law, bribery, etc. against them. The seven ministers are Anupriya Singh Patel, Ramesh Jigajinagi, Faggan Singh Kulaste, Vijay Goel, Rajen Gohain, Ramdas Athavale and MJ Akbar. While former journalist-turned-politician MJ Akbar has two cases against him, related to defamation, Patel, Jigajinagi and Kulaste have serious charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), like voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty, criminal intimidation, rioting armed with deadly weapon and bribery.

The self-sworn affidavits submitted by these ministers with the Election Commission of India (EC) show that in the 78-member council of ministers, 24 ministers — about 31 per cent — have declared criminal cases against themselves, ranging from attempt to murder, to obscene acts and electoral violations. Also, a few of these ministers are 'crorepatis' as well.

Of the 24 ministers, some prominent ones are Uma Bharti, Dr Hash Vardhan, Nitin Gadkari, Ram Vilas Paswan, Dharmendra Pradhan, Bandaru Dattatreya, Maneka Gandhi and Rajiv Pratap Rudy.

You will hear the following cliche when you raise your voice against this dichotomy: "In majority of the cases, the criminal charges filed against a politician are politically motivated." The matter is over. Mera Bharat Mahan.

Here, where mere desh ki dhari jahan ugley sona, the IT can raid at the premises of power minister of the state without informing the Chief Minister of the state. It is a repeat of Bihar episode.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley tells us not to link the searches with Rajya Sabha polls in Gujarat. Jaitley, who spoke on the issue in both Houses of Parliament, also said no search operation was conducted at the resort in Karnataka where Gujarat Congress MLAs have been staying. However, the Minister, who had "gone and parked himself" at the resort, was picked up from there for questioning, he said as Congress members vociferously raised the issue in both the Houses. They forced three adjournments of the Rajya Sabha and staged a walkout from the Lok Sabha.

Khel abhi baqi hai. Madhyantar to ho chukka!
