Rail roko in Telangana: Hundreds arrested
Hundreds of protesters have been arrested in view of Rail roko in the entire ten Telangana districts. Leaders of TRS and Congress have been taken into custody by police as they were warned beforehand that stringent action will be taken against protesters.

THE THREE-day rail blockade throughout the ten districts of Telangana started from Saturday with vigor and strong dedication by the activists, who have been sitting on the rail tracks from the early morning. The decision to go on a three-day Rail roko protest was initiated by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Saturday, after JAC had postponed it three times since the beginning of October. The rail blockade in Telangana is to press for the demand of creating a separate state.

Police have arrested hundreds of activists along with some leaders such as Kavita, KT Rama Rao - both son and daughter of TRS President Mr. K. Chandrasekhara Rao - who protested against the running of trains.

Mrs. Kavita was sitting on the tracks of Seetaphalamandi station along with her followers when the police arrested her. Mr. KT Ramarao has been taken into preventive custody at Seetaphalamandi where he is lodged in a house. Mr. Ponnam Prabhakar and former minister Jeeven Reddy have been arrested after a chase when they were proceeding to Ramagundam or Peddapalli where many express trains were bounded for Delhi. There were many MLAs arrested throughout many districts of Telangana for their participation in rail roko.

The police has taken strong action as it has detained  more than 100 protestors in Mahabubnagar district alone. But the agitation, despite police action, has led to the Railways cancelling 124 trains in Andhra Pradesh’s Telangana region from October 15 to 17.
