Railway catering - A national disgrace
Serving of food on Shatabdi and Rajdhani is supposed to be part of the luxury experience of these premiere trains. However, quality is a rare commodity in our government services.. The food is bad, the service worse and then the staff asks for tips.
SOME PASSENGERS recently fell ill after consuming allegedly stale food served in Kanpur-Shatabdi Express. Indian Railways should discontinue serving food in trains compulsorily. Instead packaged food by renowned companies can be sold and sale-incentives given to train-staff. This will help lower fares of trains like Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express.

This will also prevent waste of money for those who do not prefer outside food or have particular kinds food like ‘Jain’ food without onion and garlic.

If compulsory catering is stopped the shameful practice of railway-employees begging for ‘tips’ after serving lunch or dinner will also be put an end to. It is a disgrace when foreigners traveling in these prestigious trains note this practice down in their diaries as an Indian peculiarity to be highlighted in their countries.

.railways and poor hygiene go together for Indian railways. it was for the last 20 years and will be in the future, unless the govt shows some better taste and changes for good.
.yes i totally agree with this. The food served is really very unhygenic. It should not be compulsary.
