Railways minister, Mallikarjun Kharge, the sixth railway minister in the United Progressive Alliance led government could not complete his rail budget speech and had to stop it in the middle, because of the protests by four Congress ministers who were raising slogans on Telangana's issue.
The Congress ministers Chiranjeevi, Purandeswari, Surya Prakash Reddy and KS Rao jumped into the well of the house, after which Meira Kumar had to adjourn the house.
The reason behind the protest was that six rebel MPs of Seemandhra who moved a no-confidence motion against the UPA government were suspended by the Congress yesterday. The Speaker initially attempted to restore calm but the anti-Telangana MPs were in no mood to relent.
Because of the intense protest by the MPs the railways minister Kharge could only read the first two paragraphs of the budget.
The important points discussed in the half read budget were:
Introduction of 17 new premium trains: Premium trains, which are the main highlights of this years railway budget are the AC trains which will be charged more than the Rajdhani's but the fare will differ according to the demand. Along with premium trains 38 new passenger trains will be started.
No major announcement was done on Tariff changes for freight or passenger segment.
