Railways will now offer 'unconfirmed' Rajdhani ticket holders the option of travelling on Air India
If all goes well, Indian Railways' passengers who have unconfirmed AC-I and AC-II tier Rajdhani tickets may soon be able to fly with Air India.

This offer was penned down by former Air India (AI) chairman Ashwani Lohani in May 2016, who is now the chairman of the Indian Railway Board. If the media report is to be believed, Lohani has now placed the deal back on the table.

According to the proposal, those passengers who are having unconfirmed ticket booking status of Rajdhani Express will be entitled to travel with Air India by the Railway Board. But, this condition will be applied for the AC-I and AC-II Rajdhani ticket holders who would be required to pay the difference between their railway ticket fare and air fare.

Talking about the scheme during an interview with Times of India, Lohani said, "If AI approaches us with this proposal, we will accept it."

He further added, "AC-II Rajdhani fares are more or less similar to air fares."

As per the plan, the passengers whose tickets remain unconfirmed will also require to share their personal details with Air India so that it can then contact with them in order to offer them lucrative deals.

This move would definitely increase the demand for the Rajdhani tickets as well as solve the issue of low seat occupancy on Air India.
