Rains, winds and darkness hit Maha Kumbh badly
Heavy downpour, gusty winds and power shutdown for the last two days have hit badly the sprawling make-shift Kumbhnagar on the bank of Sangam in Allahabad. A large number of devotees have left the place since the tents were blown off by the winds and place plunged into darkness. Hundreds of devotees got injured due to falling tents and had to spend the night in the rain water and darkness.

Even the food stock at various camps got spoiled and destroyed. The fair management committee and local administration were unprepared for the eventuality, and devotees were left to fend for themselves. At many places the roads also caved in and a few devotees fell into the ditches due to power failure.

At many places, knee-deep water got filled and devotees had to wade through waters with luggage on heads to rush for railway and bus stations to escape rains and get back to their homes. Many devotees took shelter in the nearby government schools for the night.

The place, after two days of rains, is almost deserted though three more weeks of the fair are still left. The banks of the river Ganga are witnessing flood-like situation with half submerged tents.

With no administrative help coming forth, even many saints, sadhus and mahants have left the fair. It seems that the fair is over in 33 days instead of 55 days.
