If Raj Thackray has conscience then he should regret his act. He can reach out to North Indians residing in Mumbai and assure them of non discrimination and they will respond positively. Targeting poor youth is no solution to any of the problems
NARAYAN RANE, Chagan Bhujbal and scores of prominent politicians of Maharashtra have supported the cause, which Raj Thackray espoused with his own brand of vandalism. All these politicians have criticised the Railway Recruitment Board’s policy and have blamed Lalu PYadav for deliberately creating such a situation that forced Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers to take law into their own hands. Their contention is that the native people should be given priority for group D and other lower level jobs. They have also advanced conspiracy theory that by not publishing advertisement in Marathi language newspapers, railway ministry was favouring North Indian job seekers.
These are politically correct statements and no one can disagree with these arguments. Advertisement should be published in vernacular dailies and local candidates should be preferred. If that is the rule, then outside candidates cannot apply for the post. But when any person living anywhere is eligible to seek job anywhere then who are these politicians to beat them up? The candidates who had gone to Mumbai must be aware about the hostile conditions prevailing there. Their going there, despite the great risk amply shows the grave condition they are in and their desperation for any kind of job anywhere. Many of them would have taken loan and arranged money somehow to visit Mumbai. But they were beaten and abused mercilessly, which would have left such scars, which they will have to live with for the rest of their lives.
Lalu Yadav does not represent Bihar or North India. In fact it was during his tenure that Bihar was pushed backward and he commands scanty respect now. Targeting innocent poor youth to vent ire against any politician cannot be justified. If Raj is a human then why did his heart not melt seeing the plight of fellow Indians? If a Marathi and a Bihari go to his home seeking help or favour, then it is his choice who he favours. But will he kill the Bihari who has come to seek his help for no rhyme or reason? Raj understands very well the importance of North Indian labour force. If these people return to their respective states then the forward march of Mahararstra’s economy would come to a sudden halt as the labour cost would multiply manifold, making the labour intensive business untenable. There is still a great requirement of these labour forces and representatives of various recruiting agencies keep visiting every nook and corner of Bihar.
If Raj has a conscience, then he should regret his act. He can reach out to North Indians residing in Mumbai and assure them of non discrimination and they will respond positively. Who is Sanjay Nirupan to claim leadership of Mumbai-Bihari? Raj should organise "Chath Puja" himself and extend his friendship towards them and he will himself be surprised with the warm response. When a thief and robber cannot be beaten mercilessly then beating up innocent persons would invite this kind of reaction only. Resorting to strong arm tactics can make him popular amongst his followers but he will become pariah for others and one has to ultimately pay for the sins committed willfully.
