Rajasthan decides to cover Aanganwadi centers into pre-schools
In a cabinet meeting of Rajasthan government held on April 29, the decision was taken to start pre-school education at the Aanganwadi centers in the state. In the meeting chaired by Rajasthan CM, Vasundhara Raje, it was decided to convert 61,000 Aanganwadi centers in the state into pre-schools for the children up to age of six years.
The scheme of pre-schooling will be run by the department of women and child development in the state. It was also decided that a council and a monitoring committee will also be set up to implement the scheme.

"It is a good scheme but care must be taken in teacher preparation and establishment of a robust support system with community participation for the scheme to succeed. Moreover, locally relevant curriculum needs to be developed for children for school readiness to become feeder schools for primary education in the neighbourhood. Otherwise, the proposed scheme will flop and do a lot of harm to children," said Prabha Kishore, a retired teacher.

A pre-school is meant for early childhood education to children between the ages of three and five prior to the commencement of compulsory formal education at primary school. Neuro-science informs that that during early childhood (3-6 years of age), various regions of brain are most active and need to developed with right kind of learning experiences and activities.

Therefore, best of education by quality teachers needs to be imparted to cause learning and development at the pre-school level which is now considered to the most critical period of human life.

I think, any pre-school system need to observe high standards for structure like quality management, small class size of 15 to 20, purity of learning process, and contextualization of curriculum for differing ages. Some studies have suggested that Montessori and kindergarten methods of teaching are more suitable at pre-school level when adapted and contextualized.

Many educators believe that at the pre-school level socialization, physical development, spoken language development and local expressive arts, pre-number concepts, health & well-being and good habits formation should be imparted through micro-learning techniques.
