The strike that entered day five on Sunday is proving to be a bane for the common people. More and more people are losing life owing this tussle between the government hospitals and the government.
WHILE SOME people in India were enjoying the Christmas dinners on Sunday evening, around 40 people died in Rajasthan as doctors remained on strike for the fifth consecutive day. Around 3,500 doctors are agitating demanding a salary hike and 400 doctors have been arrested for not abiding by the Rajasthan Essential Services Maintenance Act (RESMA). While this is the doctor’s struggle and they have every right to raise voice if they feel they are not earning enough for their services, but why is it that they are not thinking about the general public, which is suffering due to their strike?

The Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot as reported by the timesofindia.com, visited the Jaipur's Sawai Man Singh Hospital and placated the patients that he would look into the matter and hold talks with the doctors to end their strike. For five days the hospital bore a deserted look as patients who came for treatment were left untreated and were left to die by the people who are also called the miracle workers.
The demand by the All Rajasthan In-service Doctors Association (ARISDA) has been long standing and understandingly the doctors went on the strike. They are demanding a pay hike for the last 11 months without any results and now for the last five days have decided to take the extreme step of not treating patients. The government should be equally criticised for the step taken by the doctors as it is their non reactive mode that has pushed the doctors this far.
The Government tackling the present crisis has ordered the health department to treat patients in private hospitals. The rate charged by the private hospitals would be equivalent to the government hospitals and the help of the army was also sought by the government.
